I taught a dry-stone walling course focused on gapping and field walling for Black Mountains College from 27-28 of August 2019. We also discussed writing and landscape, and will be joined by the writer Owen Sheers. Please see the BMC website for details: https://blackmountainscollege.uk/project/dry-stone-walling-and-writing/

Elementum Gallery, South Street, Sherborne, Dorset, DT9 3LU

This is a special spot for me, as I wrote for Elementum, Ed. 4, not long after the publication of Between Stone and Sky. Catherine Hyde’s original art from my piece on the Elan Valley is currently hanging in the gallery space, and Jay Armstrong, the journal’s publisher and editor, has been a wonderful ally as I have begun to make my way through the world as a writer.

Drinks from 6:30, with reading and discussion beginning at 7:00. Tickets are £9.99 and include a signed copy of Between Stone and Sky (or £6 and redeemable against a copy of the book, if you so choose). 2018

I took some time away from building in the summer and autumn of 2017 to write a book about my journey into dry-stone walling and all the places that has taken me since I began learning the craft in 2009. The result is Between Stone and Sky: Memoirs of a Waller, published in hardback on May 17, 2018 by Constable, UK. The UK paperback is due out in the summer of 2019, with a specific date to be announced soon. US publication information to follow as it becomes available.

2016

Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Washington, DC

In June I will be building a small dry-stone wall as part of the fence line for the Basque: Innovation by Culture program as part of the 2016 Smithsonian Folklife Festival. It will be on display from approximately June 25-July 15. Look for the wall on the north side of the mall, not far from the main entrance to the National Gallery of Art. I'm excited about this project since this brings me full-circle, right back to the place where I first learned what dry-stone walling is.
